Cathaoirleach Cllr. Terence Slowey and Seamus Neely, Donegal County Council meeting with the Charge d’Affaires of Georgia Mr. George Zurabashvili on Thursday last in the County House Lifford.
Cathaoirleach Cllr. Terence Slowey and Chief Executive Seamus Neely were delighted to meet the Charge d’Affaires of Georgia Mr. George Zurabashvili in the County House, Lifford on Thursday afternoon last.
Seamus Neely explained that Mr. Zurabashvilli’s visit provided the Council with a great opportunity to showcase what the county has to offer and to discuss opportunities for trade development in a number of key areas including tourism and food as well as the potential for educational exchanges.
Georgia is located at the crossroads between Western Asia and Eastern Europe and is renowned for its fascinating history, majestic Caucasus Mountains, curative climate, healing mineral waters, national parks and UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
“Mr. Zurabashvilli was keen to highlight the similarities between both our regions particularly as important economic hubs. Our location means that we have the potential to act as a transatlantic hub into Europe and similarly Georgia has the potential to become an important hub into Asia and Europe” says Seamus Neely.

“We are delighted that Mr. Zurabashvilli has visited Donegal and taken the time to meet with us and with other stakeholders in the county including LYIT. We look forward to following up on this meeting with a view to establishing business and educational linkages that will be of benefit to both Donegal and Georgia”.
